The Personalities of the Twelve Disciples Whom Jesus Loved

Discover the fascinating Bible story of the Valley of Dry Bones in Ezekiel 37. Learn how God brought dead bones back to life, revealing a powerful message of hope and restoration.
The Bible is full of powerful and sometimes mysterious stories—but one of the most visually striking and dramatic is found in Ezekiel 37, often called the "Vision of the Valley of Dry Bones."
Imagine this: a prophet walking through a field filled with dry, lifeless bones—and suddenly, those bones start moving, joining together, and turning into a living army. It sounds like something out of a movie, but it carries one of the most hopeful messages in Scripture.
The prophet Ezekiel is led by God into a valley. But it’s not just any valley—it’s full of very dry bones, scattered across the ground. They’ve been there a long time. There’s no sign of life anywhere.
Then God asks Ezekiel:
“Son of man, can these bones live?”
Ezekiel answers wisely:
“Sovereign Lord, You alone know.”
God commands Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones:
“Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!”
As Ezekiel speaks, something miraculous happens. The bones begin to rattle and move, coming together, forming skeletons. Then tendons and flesh appear. Skin covers them. But… they’re still not alive.
Then God says:
“Prophesy to the breath… and say, ‘Come from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’”
Ezekiel obeys—and suddenly, the breath of life enters them. They stand up on their feet—a vast, mighty army! What was once death and hopelessness becomes life and strength.
God explains the vision to Ezekiel:
“These bones are the people of Israel… I will open your graves and bring you back to the land of Israel.”
(Ezekiel 37:11–14)
The message is clear:
Even when all seems lost—even when we feel spiritually dead—God can breathe new life into us. He restores, He revives, and He fulfills His promises.
If this vision were turned into a movie, imagine the CGI!
A desolate battlefield, bones rattling and assembling, flesh forming, and then—BOOM!—an army rising as breath fills their lungs. It’s cinematic, epic, and full of hope.
No situation is too far gone for God.
He can bring life out of death.
When you feel dry, weary, and hopeless, God's Spirit can revive you.
